The Pan Flute Stomp

Watch a little video of Kevin playing a very catchy tune on a 5 note pan flute.

In the jungle, the mighty jungle,
The bamboo pan flute lurks,
Rhythms, catchy, wild and free,
Draw you in and let you see
How the jungle music works.
Let you feel the deep and simple
Ancient mystery.

Kevin Budd composed this simple catchy tune, then, playing mostly on a 5 tube pentatonic pan flute. He recorded it in one take. By bending notes and using double and triple tonguing it becomes interesting.

Kevin Budd, of Toronto, Canada, plays and builds wonderful Romanian-style pan flutes. The fine bamboo pipes are tuned to the traditional key of G major or the optional C.

The pan flute has long been popular as a folk instrument, and is considered the ancestor of both the pipe organ and the harmonica. The pan flute is named for its association with the rustic Greek god Pan.
